Welcome to Besancon

The Old Town, or Vieille Ville, is full of narrow, winding streets lined with beautiful historical buildings, quaint shops, and cozy cafes. The area is perfect for soaking in the city's atmosphere and discovering hidden gems.

When my mom and I visited Besancon, the Grande Rue was bustling with activity even in the middle of winter. There are plently of bars, shops, and cafes to spend the day!

A UNESCO World Heritage site, this impressive fortress dominates the city from its hilltop perch. Designed by the renowned military engineer Vauban, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and houses several museums, including the Museum of the Resistance and Deportation and the Natural History Museum.

Fête de la Musique, celebrated on June 21st, is a nationwide event in France during which musicians of all kinds perform on the streets, in public spaces, and at various venues. The event is free and open to everyone, with performances ranging from professional acts to amateur groups. Once our Day-After Brunch has concluded, you can make your way back to Besancon and take part in the fun!

Situated within the Citadel of Besançon, this museum focuses on the French Resistance during World War II and the experiences of those who were deported. It offers a deep and poignant look into this critical period of history. he museum’s exhibits include personal stories, historical documents, and artifacts related to the Resistance, providing a moving and educational experience about the wartime struggle and courage.

Located in the beautiful Granvelle Palace, the musee pays homage to Besancon's watchmaking history and tradition. The museum’s collection spans centuries, showcasing a remarkable array of clocks, watches, and related artifacts, from ancient sundials to elaborate mechanical clocks and modern timekeeping devices.
